Sounding Boards Garden

services performed at Eastlake Studio

In the summer of 2020, plywood went up across Chicago storefronts - and artists turned those boards into murals. When the boards came down, the question became: what next? Working with the non-profit Sounding Boards and presented at the 2021 Chicago Architecture Biennial's Available City edition, the answer was a community garden at North Lawndale's Harmony Community Church. The murals became structure. A stage clad in mural slats hosts outdoor gatherings. Engraved bricks remember community members. The space holds grief, celebration, and everyday life - all at once.
