TOPOHUNTO is an architecture and design studio based in Chicago, Illinois. We focus on context-driven design, careful listening, and a rigorous process that carries through documentation and construction. Our goal is to deliver well-crafted spaces that reflect the realities of site, context, and how clients live, work & play.

The studio values listening over asserting & understanding over ego. Design emerges through collaboration, curiosity, and close attention to place, resulting in architecture that feels grounded in its context and true to the solution it serves.

The practice brings together a few simple ideas that guide how the studio works.

“TOPO” evokes topography, terrain, and the thoughtful art of paying attention to place. It reflects a way of working that starts by understanding how a site behaves -how light moves, how weather shifts, and how architecture and landscape can respond with clarity and care. It suggests an approach that listens closely to context and constraints, treating each site and project as something with its own character, waiting to be understood rather than overridden.

“HUNTO” comes from Hunter, the dog who turns even a simple walk into an adventure. It carries a sense of curiosity, focus, and the fun of chasing down the right solution. It also hints at the design process itself, which often feels like following trails, exploring possibilities, and sniffing out what truly works.

Together, TOPOHUNTO suggests a studio that is serious about craft but comfortable being playful. It looks closely, asks better questions, and enjoys the search as much as the resolution. The name reflects a practice rooted in context, energized by discovery, and guided by the spirit of a loyal companion.
